Ducati 899 Panigale Scan-to-CAD Reverse-Engineering & Aero Development
The first major personal project I undertook post-graduation was learning how to fully 3D scan my car & motorcycle and develop a process for stitching scan-sets together, aligning them to the automotive industry standard coordinate system, merging the datasets accurately, and reverse-engineering the surfaces captured for use in SolidWorks.
I do all the 3D scanning, reverse-engineering, and design work in addition to all component installations on the actual motorcycle. Manufacturing and welding are typically handled by a friend who owns a fabrication shop. The only item to date that has been test fitted is a side fairing aero winglet to gauge aesthetics before committing to a solid mounting solution & a more robust manufacturing method. The winglet shown in the images below was manufactured using an SLA 3D printing process out of "ABS-Like" resin.
The motorcycle aero projects are on hold while the various automotive designs are underway.
