Toyota Connected Twin Seat Driving Simulator
Toyota & Microsoft created a joint venture called Toyota Connected to develop software & technology for the next phases of smart Toyota vehicles. A two-seat driving simulator was desired for testing systems & collecting data for use in real world applications, the simulator would contain the following:
1. Kinect camera collecting body language data from the driver/passenger.
2. Intel RealSense camera with eye-tracking functionality for collecting driver eye movements.
3. Heart-rate monitors for both the driver and passenger to collect biometric data for analysis.
4. Telemetry software powered by Microsoft Azure for mapping scenarios & human reactions.
I was responsible for the design of the composite dashboard/center console/tail wrap components which integrated with the D-BOX actuator powered motion platform & housed the seats, console mounted Microsoft Surface, control box, and the steering/pedal systems.
The completed simulator currently resides in the Toyota Connected main office in Plano, Texas. I travelled with the simulator down to Plano to conduct installation & training for the staff there.
