VRX Simulators New Racing Simulator Chassis Design
The core product of VRX Simulators is their racing simulator that allows clients to race/drive cars in a simulated environment (with or without actuated chassis movement). The previous chassis design required many components to assemble & took 5-6 days to build; it also was criticized for less than realistic ergonomics when compared against the ergonomics of sport/racing cars. VRX utilized Fanatec sim-racing controls & D-BOX motion to enhance realism in their simulation experiences.
I was the design lead & project manager charged with improving the ergonomics of the simulator vs the previous design and reducing the cost to manufacture & assembly time. It was also desired by the company CEO to improve the aesthetics of the simulator chassis & provide ample space for vinyl branding space/liveries if possible. I also assembled and tested the first two prototypes & consulted with the fabricators to optimize the manufacturing processes.
The final design cut the cost to manufacture down by 40% and reduced the assembly time by 75% in addition to providing ample area for graphics/livery application.
